For 16 years, best friends and JUNO Award nominees Sonshine and Broccoli have been entertaining children and parents alike with their infectious enthusiasm and energetic pop-rock songs. This award-winning, children’s musical entertainment duo, have rocked out shows across the country and have had audiences singing and dancing along to their 4 hit, studio albums.
The duo's brand new album Born to Be Brave is a VIBE! I love all of the tracks but my favourite songs are 'I'm Gonna Be Ok' and 'Bounce'. From the first beat of the first song you can feel the energy and love radiating through the music. Sonshine's vocals are vibrant and bright. This is an album that you can play on repeat with your kiddos.
Positive vibes, fun grooves, and interactive lyrics will have you hooked. I tried listening without bopping along, it was impossible! I challenge you to try! The new album is available everywhere now!
I got the opportunity to chat with Sonshine and Broccoli about their new album, their songwriting and collaborations!
I am LOVING your new album! Born to Be Brave is your 6th full-length album. What made you decide on the name?
We collaborated with Juno award winning Kairo McLain and Kirk diamond and wrote the song born to be brave together. We were so obsessed with the vibe of the song and felt that it was only fitting that it would be the title of our album.
There are so many amazing collaborations on this album! Superstar Twinkle Time, Sammy Kimelman, Lexy the Rap Dad, Kairo McLean, and Kirk Diamond join you on several tracks. What inspired these partnerships?
Covid played a huge part in these amazing collabs. It offered us the time to jump on zoom and the opportunity to get to know other Kindie artists and their style. I think it adds such a special addition to the album
After writing and recording 6 full-length albums, how do you keep finding fun inspiration for your original songs?
We each carry a note section in our phones. Every time we get inspiring , walking down the street, a song on the radio or an interaction we write it down. When it comes to writing we pull out our inspiration notes and go from there
You announced a while back that you are working on an animated children's television show featuring the adventures of sunshine & Broccoli. We need an update! Is still happening and if so, when can we see it?
Love this question. Covid put a hold on some projects however they are still in the works. They have changed and adapted .. stay timeframe
When the two of you aren't making or performing music for kids, what do you do for fun?
